Junior
In the Junior ballet program, a variety of ballet exercises and movements are introduced, acquainting students with the five essential foot positions and fundamental techniques like pliés, battement tendus, and battement jetés. As they progress, they engage in more intricate combinations and sequences, all under the meticulous guidance of the instructor. The primary aim is to establish a robust technical foundation, focusing on correct alignment, flexibility, and strength. Students are taught the rationale behind the execution of movements and learn to critically analyze their own technique. This enables them to independently recognize and rectify technical errors from the onset. Such an approach not only deepens their understanding of classical ballet technique but also cultivates a proactive commitment to precision and conscious awareness during the class. These skills and insights empower them to navigate and overcome challenges in more advanced classes. Finally, students craft their own choreographic improvisations to brief segments of classical music from instructor examples, allowing them to gain insight into the visual assembly of movements in choreography and develops the artistic capabilities necessary for training as a classical ballet dancer.
The Junior ballet program is a significant milestone in a young dancer’s education, focusing on the development of analytical skills, personal initiative, and artistic growth. It is designed to transition students from merely imitating instructor examples, as seen in earlier years, to developing a keen understanding and a solid knowledge base. This progress lays the groundwork for the more structured and complex aspects of classical ballet training.
Ages 8-9
★ Placement is determined by the student’s age as of September 1. Students remain in the same program for the full duration of the designated age group and do not transfer mid-year.
